Who We Are

DDAN is a non-governmental, non-profit making,

non -political community based organization running by and for the Dalit people with disabilities. The motto of DDAN is to empower the Dalit people with disabilities by providing access and opportunities to live to uplift their social, cultural, economic, political and environmental status.

DDAN has been duly registered with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu (Registration No. 60/080) and is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (Affiliation NO.55814). It is also affiliated with CBR National Network Nepal.

DDAN has been working in partnership with international organizations along with some local governments for the economic empowerment of Dalit persons with disabilities for working in the community, self-employment, inclusive employment, and sensitization on the rights of persons with disabilities. It has been working in the media to raise awareness about rights and benefits of persons with disabilities. DDAN has been advocating for the implementation of the legal provision. DDAN is currently working on capacity building of the DDAN volunteers, collecting the empirical issues and cases of discrimination faced by the Dalit people with disabilities.

As a result of lobbying of self-help groups, an amount of NPR. 1,022,429 has been allocated and utilized by various self-help groups comprising 500 persons with disabilities.

2000 Persons with disabilities involved in income generating activities.

Various Persons with disabilities have started to run the business such as goat rearing, small shop and buffalo husbandry etc that support their livelihood.

In achieving positive change in lives of Persons with disabilities in the community of the project VDCs (education, livelihood, participation, health condition, use of assistive devices etc.);

In being more effective in approaches to collaboration of SHGs with local government, political parties and development organizations in local level;

Strengthening the capacity of Persons with disabilities in community level for making positive intervention and for recognizing with their potentiality and recommend them for mainstreaming in community development,

Bringing changes in social values, attitudes and livelihoods of Persons with disabilities.

Ensuring inclusion of disability focused programs in line agencies of government in local bodies including women and Children with disability.

The political leaders were aware in political representation, name registration in voters List, accessible voters education

The school enrolment of the Children with Disabilities has been increased by 55 percent and almost all the Disabled Students of the public school in the project VDCs receive the scholarship through the District Education office within Government program.

Support to construct disability friendly ramps in 30 districts by central level advocacy.

Support for Accessing Assistive devices for Persons with disabilities.

The central level lobby for political rights of Persons with disabilities has made commitments to political leaders to ensure political rights to Persons with disabilities.

System

Governance and Internal Control System

DDAN has its own General Assembly as the apex body of the organization. It elects the Executive Committee for a period of three years from among its general members who are eligible to compete and have voting rights. The Executive Committee (EC) makes policies and takes major decisions which are approved by the General Assembly during the annual meeting.

The EC continuously monitors and evaluates the program and the budget of programs run by the organization. The chairperson of the organization is entrusted by the Executive Committee to look after the overall monitoring and decision making of the organization when there is no meeting of the executive committee. The decisions taken by the Chairperson are discussed and approved by the next meeting of the Executive Committee. The Chairperson also acts as a link person with the local as well as national level partner or donor organizations.

The chairperson also represents organization in various coordination meetings, wherever the participation of the Chairperson is mandatory. The organization also has internal policies and regulation to run the organization and maintain the law and order within the organization which at management level is executed by the Executive Director (ED).

The ED of the organization is more responsible for the management of overall programs owned by the organization. Similarly, DDAN has a couple of expert Advisors to provide technical guidance and support to the organization. Mr. Padam Pariyar, Founding Chairperson and other thematic advisors are providing technical guidance.
